The Putney Public Library History Quest took place over the Spring and Summer of 2023. Working with local middle school students, we researched the history of the library in Putney. This research included visits to the Town Vault to view primary sources like town meeting logs from the late 1700’s and original maps of the town. We also partnered with the Putney Historical Society to view old documents and photographs to aid in our research. After learning about the history of the library in Putney, we created a walking map of these locations and developed a letterbox quest for the project. Each location on the map included a clue to find a hidden letterbox at the location and several questions that could be answered with clues in the letterbox. A handcarved stamp was also contained in each letterbox- designed and carved by the students- as well as historical photos.
